Weekend of Thrills for Mullingar RFC's U13 Teams

It was a weekend bustling with rugby action for the Under 13 boys of Mullingar RFC, with both the Red and Blue teams engaged in challenging fixtures. The Reds faced Portarlington RFC at Shay Murtagh Park, while the Blues journeyed to play against Wicklow RFC.

Mullingar Red RFC vs Portarlington RFC

The Reds took on a robust Portarlington side, a team known for its strength and a large player squad. The first half saw Mullingar struggling to find their rhythm, but the team made a commendable comeback in the second half. Impressive tries by Ben and Ollie highlighted their improved performance. Despite their valiant efforts, the Reds couldn't secure a win, with the match concluding at 21-10 in favour of Portarlington.

Wicklow RFC vs Mullingar Blue RFC

Meanwhile, the Blue team demonstrated an explosive start against Wicklow RFC, with Óran scoring an early try, adeptly converted by Colm. After a response try from Wicklow, Daire powered over for Mullingar's second, again successfully converted by Colm. The first half ended with Mullingar showcasing a heroic defence, successfully thwarting Wicklow's persistent attacks.

The second half saw more tries from Óran and Daire, with Colm converting one, giving Mullingar a substantial lead. Wicklow made a late resurgence with two tries, but it wasn't enough to overturn the game. The final whistle blew with a score of 26-19, marking a well-earned victory for Mullingar Blue.

Celebrating Team Effort and Individual Milestones

This weekend was not only a demonstration of the teams' rugby skills but also their resilience and team spirit. A special mention to PJ for making his debut for the club and the boys who captained and led their teams admirably. Fielding two teams at the U13 level is a terrific achievement, reflecting the growing interest and enthusiasm within the club.

Onwards and Upwards

The experiences and lessons from these matches are invaluable for the development of these young players. As they continue to grow in skill and team cohesion, the future of rugby at Mullingar RFC looks brighter than ever. Congratulations to all players, coaches, and supporters who made this weekend a memorable one.
