Join Mullingar RFC for the "Respect Our Game" Weekend

Mullingar Rugby Football Club is excited to participate in the IRFU's "Respect Our Game" weekend from 2nd to 4th February. This initiative is a call to action for all rugby clubs to reinforce the core values of the game, particularly the importance of respect towards players, volunteers, members, and spectators.

One key issue that the "Respect Our Game" weekend aims to address is the decline in adult sports participation due to feelings of exclusion or unwelcome environments. For younger players, the loss of enjoyment in the game is a major concern. The IRFU's State of the Game Survey conducted in 2022 revealed that 55% of players, 43% of coaches, and 47% of referees feel that poor sideline behaviour significantly impacts the game and their involvement in it.

Mullingar RFC is dedicated to creating a positive, inclusive, and respectful atmosphere within the club. This special weekend is an opportunity for us to showcase the best aspects of rugby and its ability to positively influence our lives when played in a respectful and safe environment.

We have a range of activities planned for the weekend to promote these values. These include fair play awards at adult games, encouraging silent or positive sidelines at youth games, and presentations to parents and coaches about their crucial roles in fostering a respectful sporting environment.

The IRFU is supporting clubs participating in this initiative by providing "Respect Our Game" branded rugby balls, spot prizes for competitions, and other goodies to help promote the message of the weekend.

We invite all members, new and existing, as well as the local community, to join us at Mullingar RFC for this important event. Together, we can demonstrate the true spirit of rugby and ensure that our club continues to be a welcoming and enjoyable place for everyone involved.
